Nathan Mayer Rothschild, born in Germany in 1777, was a prominent banker and financier who played a key role in establishing the Rothschild banking dynasty in the early 19th century. After a successful career in the textile business, he established the N M Rothschild bank in London in 1809 and was instrumental in financing the British government during the Napoleonic Wars.
