Born in the 1860s, George Washington Carver was an American agricultural chemist who famously developed over 300 products derived from peanuts including various dyes, flour, medicinal oils, and cosmetics as well as over 100 products based on the sweet potato. Carver's work helped to revitalize the agricultural economy of the Southern United States after the Civil War.
