Known for their large mechanical levers (arms), slot machines are a type of gambling machine where money is wagered in the form of coins, tokens, bills, or card-based systems. A bettor pulls the mechanical arm on the machine to start it, with the goal of lining up specific symbols that (with any luck for the bettor) indicate a payout. Very often the bettor loses their money to the machine, so over the years slot machines became known as "one armed bandits."
