Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon representing the contribution of women in the workforce during World War Il. The image first associated with Rosie the Riveter was a recruiting poster for Westinghouse Electric by J. Howard Miller titled "We Can Do It." The name "Rosie the Riveter" actually derives from a song released in 1943. Norman Rockwell's drawing for the Saturday Evening Post of a female defense worker had the name "Rosie" on the character's lunchbox.
